PSYCHIATRY

Psychiatry is literally a branch of medicine that deals with mental and nervous diseases, the diagnosis and treatment of major maladjustments in the person. Its main area of interest is brain diseases. In this field, there are conditions called mental illness and nervousness in everyday language. These diseases are manifested by changes in thought, behaviour and emotion. Our psychiatry department deals with the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.

Like all functions, the functions that shape human existence are affected by both physical and external conditions. The degree of influence of changes in the body and the external environment on the occurrence of psychiatric illnesses varies from one illness to another. For example, in mental illnesses caused by brain tumors, physical factors have the greatest influence, whereas external factors are decisive in mental traumas that occur in response to unusual experiences.

In our psychiatric department, different methods are used in the treatment of mental illnesses depending on the characteristics of the illness. In addition to those applied directly to the body (medication, electroconvulsive therapy, etc.), methods that target the emotional, and intellectual characteristics of the person or variables in relationships (psychotherapy) are also included in this profession.

These methods can only be applied by trained specialists.
