General Surgery Department works in cooperation and coordination with many medical branches because of the wideness of its field.

For the diagnosis, surgery and post-operative treatment phases of General Surgery patients, General Surgery department works in cooperation with Laboratory, Radiology/Interventional Radiology, and Pathology. One of the most important phases in treatment of General Surgery patients is to return the patients to their routine in fastest possible way.

Our General Surgery department is a department that aims at responding to all surgical operations including complicated surgeries by using the latest medical technology. General Surgery Department of Private Optimed Hospital that defines it as a mission to provide a patient-oriented, cheery, qualified and reliable service; by using modern techniques, has adopted it as a vision to be one of the Turkey’s most reliable General Surgery departments in all clinical surgical practices, minimal invasive (laparoscopic) surgery and urgent surgery being in the first place.

The General Surgery Department of our hospital which provides polyclinic services 6 days a week and emergency service services 7 days a week and 24 hours continuously; provides the following services to our patients.

Endocrine Surgery:

In this department, the surgical treatment of Goitre particularly, adrenale (adrenal gland), thyroid and parathyroid glands diseases and benign and malign diseases of all hormonal system at the body is performed.

Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery:

This unit performs surgical treatment which requires special experience in gall bladder and its tracts, liver and pancreatic diseases. In our department, all laparoscopic treatment methods concerning the diseases related to the gall bladder and its tracts due to gallstones.

Colorectal Surgery:

All attempts on benign and malign colon-rectum (large intestine) diseases are performed in our General Surgery department by using current technology. In this unit of our hospital, our patients are also provided services for anal part diseases such as hemorrhoids (piles), fistulas or fissures (fracture) as high incidence diseases.

Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery with Laparoscopic Method

(Bariatric Surgery, Type2 Diabetic Surgery)

Laparoscopic Surgery:

In laparoscopic surgery unit; laparoscopic treatment of gall bladder, stomach, gastroesophageal reflux, spleen, appendix diseases are performed.

Diagnose and Treatment of Breast Diseases:

Follow-Up and treatments of Cysts, infections, fibroadenoms, mastitis and abscess treatment; screening, treatment and follow-up of breast cancer, nipple discharge and follow-up and treatments of other benign diseases.

Oncological Surgery:

Oncology unit which is affiliated with General Surgery Department; performs surgical treatments for breast neoplasms, digestive system neoplasms; lives, pancreas, biliary tracts neoplasms, skin and soft tissue neoplasms, malign melanoma, thyroid gland and other endocrine gland neoplasms.

Digestive System Surgery:

In this unit, surgical treatment of oesophagus (esophagus), stomach, duodenum, small and large intestine diseases are performed.

Obesity and Metabolic Surgery

Obesity surgery is mainly based on two principles. In obesity surgery, the goal is to reduce the stomach volume and/or “malabsorption”, in other words, preventing the absorption of food.

If the duration of obesity is more than 5 years and the patient is between 18 and 65 years old, it can be applied to obesity surgery.


  • Severe eating disorder
  • Continuation of obesity with excessive alcohol intake
  • Serious systemic diseases
  • Diseases affecting the upper digestive tract
  • The need for regular use of anti-inflammatory drugs

Methods used in obesity surgery:

  • Sleeve Gastrectomy
  • Gastric Bypass Surgeries
  • Duodenal Switch Surgery

Conditions unsuitable for surgery:

  • If obesity has occurred due to thyroid gland laziness, cortisone use or endocrine organ disease,
  • In case of addiction to stimulants such as drugs, alcohol, etc.,
  • If there is a serious psychiatric problem,
  • If pregnancy is planned within 1 year, obesity surgery is not performed under these conditions.

Postoperative pain is minimal. It heals spontaneously in 1-2 days and can be easily controlled with simple painkillers. After such surgeries, you should stay in the hospital for 2 or 3 days. You can stand up after 4 hours after the surgery. No catheter is placed in the nose or urinary tract.
